Higher Computing

• Higher Computing Science is an SQA qualification.
• As with all National, Higher and Advanced Higher courses, there's a Course Specification document available that anyone can download.

• You have an exam at the end and a practical coursework task you must complete in class
• There are four units in the course

• The four units are:
  • Computer Systems
  • Database Design and Development
  • Software Design and Development
  • Web Design and Development
• Teachers choose between Database Design and Development and Web Design and Development and you don't have to do both.

• At Higher, you are expected to complete all homework tasks given. They are created for you own good and to help you pass this course.
• You will be given homework regularly ranging from past papers to tasks created by your teacher
• You should also be regularly revising over materials and working on your own revision (such as completing past papers on your own)

• One of the most useful things you can do early on is develop a revision plan that you can allocate certain time to certain subjects each day (this is called round-robin scheduling)
• You can take this a step further and specify what areas you'd like to study in each subject when

• The Course Specification document is a very useful tool for revision!
• You can print it and tick off parts when you feel that you understand.
• You can also use this to give you an understanding of what you are covering.
