tODAY'S LESSON

  • Today we're going to be making a ball bounce.

Frames

  • Animations are made of frames.
  • You may have heard the term frames per second, which refers to the number of frames you have in one second.
  • The more FPS you have, the smoother the animation will be. 

Stopframe animation

  • In stopframe animation, each frame is individually made up by the animator.

keyframe animation

  • In keyframe animation, the animator only needs to specify frames that are significant and the computer then figures out all the frames between them.
  • Keyframe animation is used all over the animation industry, but it's now also used across websites on the world wide web too!

  • As you see in the previous animation, the animation doesn't look very fluid - the ball just jumps between places on the screen.

Keyframe animation

  • As you see in the previous animation, the animation doesn't look very fluid - the ball just jumps between places on the screen.

  • To fix this, we can use tweening, a standard feature of animation software.

  • The word tweening comes from between as it adds all of the frames between two or more keyframes.

Bouncing Ball Task

  • Using the instructions provided, creating a bouncing ball animation. Attempt the extension task after.
  • When you finish that, you can pick out one of the tutorials from that list and try and animate it using what you have learned in this lesson.
